Greg Blum

Managing Partner & General Agent

Biography

Greg Blum is Co-General Agent of MassMutual Long Island Metro. Greg and the Agency are motivated by an understanding that they can help improve the financial lives of their clients and colleagues.

Upon receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics / Accounting from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1982, he began his career as a Tax Accountant.

For over two decades, Greg was an industry leading Estate Planner, working with the owners of closely held corporations and high net worth individuals throughout the New York tristate region. In 2005 he left a practice that inspired him to build Center for Wealth Preservation. Through hard work, mentorship and development of his colleagues, acquisitions and a merger, today, MassMutual LI Metro is represented by over 100 Advisors and talented support / management team.

While in practice Greg qualified for many industry awards. Under his leadership, the Agency was awarded with MassMutual’s “Chairman’s Trophy” which is awarded for Outstanding Performance and is based on a point system that rewards performance of key measures in sales; in 2006, they also received a Silver in 2010 and in 2012 they received Bronze. The Agency has also been recognized with the “Crystal Achievement Award” which recognizes firms that have demonstrated solid performance and growth over the previous year, as well as maintained quality business in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019.  Under Greg’s tenure, General Agents Managers Association (GAMA) International has recognized Greg and the Center for Wealth Preservation with the “Master Agency Award” in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. 

Greg credits the disciplined application of a planning approach for his and the Agency’s Advisors’ success. The hallmarks are: listening to a client’s specific needs, goals and objectives, then designing customized solutions.

Greg is an avid tennis player.  He and his Wife, Jill, live in Woodbury, NY. They have two Sons, Alex lives in Chicago and Matt lives in New York City. Both Sons have launched their own careers in the financial industry.

Biography

Gary Ranftle joined MassMutual in 2004 as a General Agent. He and his partner, Greg Blum, took on the challenge of leading and developing a financial planning organization. Together they started MassMutual Long Island Metro.

Our Mission: We are motivated by the opportunity to improve lives. The financial lives of our clients, agents, staff and management team have all been enhanced through their association with MassMutual Long Island Metro.

During his time at MassMutual Long Island Metro, the Agency has been awarded the MassMutual “Chairman’s Trophy,” which is awarded for Outstanding Performance; in 2006, they also received a Silver in 2010 and in 2012 they received Bronze. The Agency has also received the MassMutual “Crystal Achievement Award” in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. The Agency has consistently ranked in the Top 10 MassMutual Agencies for the last 15 years, growing from 26 to over 100 advisors. Through his experience with GAMA International, Gary has also been awarded the “GAMA Master Agency Award” in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 and has also been the recipient of the “GAMA International Management Award Diamond” in 2006 - 2015

Gary has been actively involved in organizing Disability Awareness Night (DAN) for ten years at Citi Field in Queens, NY. This event is in partnership with the New York Mets. Disability Awareness Night provides an opportunity for many consumers and staff members of organizations that serve the special needs population to attend a Major-League ballgame, thanks to tickets donated by MassMutual Long Island Metro and its Special Care Planners. The SpecialCareSM Program developed exclusively by MassMutual, offers access to information, specialists, and financial solutions that can help improve the quality of life for people with special needs, their families and caregivers. Our goal and the goal of those we honor is to help people with disabilities to live dignified and fulfilling lives.

Gary lives in Hauppauge with his wife of 29 years, Lorraine. They have two children, Andrew and Taylor. In his free time, Gary likes spending time with his family on Fire Island and snowboarding in Vermont.

Prior Experience:
Gary entered the Financial Services Career with CIGNA Financial Advisors in 1987. There he achieved Presidents Conference in 1988 and was recruited into management. Gary specialized in working with experienced advisors to help them grow their businesses by increasing the net worth of their clientele. While affiliated with Lincoln Financial Advisors (the successor to CIGNA Financial Advisors), he became the Managing Principal of the New York/New Jersey Metro Region covering four offices with over 120 planners. During his tenure, the NY/NJ Metro Region was consistently one of the top 3 agencies in the Lincoln network.
